When March came and went, I watched the UK celebrate Mothering Sunday with beautiful flowers and Sunday roasts. It was lovely. But if you were born in Mexico, you know the truth: our hearts were quietly waiting for the 10th of May.
For us, El Día de las Madres is not just a holiday; it is sacred. I close my eyes here in London, and I can still hear the mariachis waking up the neighbourhood at dawn. I remember the school festivals, the chaotic joy of the house, and above all, the smell of the kitchen. A fresh, warm concha paired with hot chocolate was the first way we said "I love you, Mamá" before the day even began.
Being an expat on May 10th is hard. The distance feels a little bit wider. You cannot simply walk down the street to your local panadería to buy her favourite pan dulce. But this is exactly why we built The Bread Bridge.
We are not just baking bread; we are baking a portal back to the dining table of our childhood.
For my fellow Mexicans in the UK, I see you. Whether you are treating yourself because you miss your mother's kitchen, sending a box to another Mexican mother who is raising her children far from home, or sharing our deeply rooted traditions with your British family, we have a seat at the table for you.
This 10th of May, we bring the authentic recipes of our grandmothers to London. The culinary engineering of a perfect, soft Tres Leches. The crisp, buttery topping of a true concha. Let the distance fade, just for a moment, with the greatest first bite.
